Question: When was Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church founded?
Answer: The "little green church" became a community fixture along the Avenues in York around the beginning of the 20th century. The structure was built by the Episcopal Church and named the Chapel of the Holy Incarnation. The exact date of construction has been lost to history.
It was in 1912 that the Missionary Committee of the York Conference of the Lutheran Church first made use of the building, offering Sunday School classes in June of that year.
Plans were put in motion to form a congregation under the direction of Rev. Frederick G. Gotwald. The newly formed Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrated Holy Communion for the first time on October 12, 1913, with just 37 members. The congregation grew to over 100 within the year.
